why dont they just make it a DLC. I think this is a dumb move by valve, a sequal 1 year after the original which still has no SDK and only one major update.

I listened to the Rock Paper Shotgun podcast interview with Chet Faliszek, just to get an understanding of wtf they were thinking to do this, and apparently this has been in the works ever since the original was released.

Basically there were some ideas that some of the team didn't get in to the game that they really wanted to, so Chet set up a team to do Left 4 Dead 2. That right there is fail.

There are few changes, and some are changed just for the sake of changing so that people buy it, such as: Amped up director that does more stuff (cbf explaining properly), more weapons (The CHAINSAW) and other such things.

Thermal, its still a REALLY stupid move. Its more like something EA would do Cash grab style. Why not just impliment this stuff as a DLC??! it doesn't even look that big content wise..

It's not finished, is it? It looks kind of... bad. Atmospherically and in general, especially when compared to Left 4 Dead.

I might get it if it keeps the awesomeness of L4D, and the new game modes and Zombies are fun.

Though it's pretty safe to assume we'll be paying full-price for this one, sadly.

There aren't any new game modes, they've just tweaked some aspects of the game. It's a waste of money for both the consumer that owns L4D already, and Valve itself for wasting time on something they could have just added to the normal game. No one will play the first one after this.

Finding a decent server, or sometimes even a single player, is hard enough as it is.

That may be true.

But I still don't see the benefit of a sequel so soon, especially one which could be made up of user-made content.

No one will buy Left 4 Dead anymore. If this was a sequel, which it should have been, then Valve would be getting people buying both games (and hopefully #2 for a decent price). Hell even Gabe Newell was against this idea at first.
