In case you've being living under a rock; you may have heard about the Australian government trying to censor our national internet access, by filtering out whatever they consider harmful. This will also cause bandwidth slowdown as well, some of you may already know, our internet is a joke by international standards, we pay too much for such pitiful bottlenecks, so expect an ISP cost increase, if this is implemented.

Been all over this for a while socky but good to see there are other people worried. Conroy is a complete dickhead if he thinks this will do anything accept slowing the internet..

But if we don't let them change the laws, how will we censor ourselves from the bad things!?

but the reasons i dont care is
A) i think i will still be able to download my bomb making PDF's some how
but i think its the principle of the thing, becasue no doubt it will have some stupid stuff blocked, like lets just say E.g. steam.
and think of what a bummer that would be ehhh???

Mandatory Censorship is any way shape or form is Bad. Who will be in control of this black list... What are there agendas... First Illegal material will be blocked then what? Family First want to block all porn also.. then maybe all softcore porn.... then all swearwords?

LOL. Seriously man. NO ONE can "crack" this filtering as its at ISP level. Unless people use a VPN which will cost you bucks and they will monitor your traffic as well.

That kid crack a program that did client side filtering, and he is a champion.

The best way is to stop these fuckers from implementing it in the first place.

Depends on whether they do DNS filtering, IP filtering or content filtering.
DNS = easy to get around with no slow down.
IP = time to find server outside the firewall which will fuk up your speed more.
Content Filtering = they might as well through all of us in jail to prevent us doing anything wrong.

soada brings up a good point regarding the tv. maybe they will have times when you are able to veiw certain stuff like. porn after 12:00am but yeah idk... will be an epic outcry if it ever happens.

Nope.. because the amount of money and changes that need to be made will mean the damage will already be done... and what are they going to say "huh it didnt work, lets let child pron back in" ?

They are aware of the slow down but think its ok. Remember, they have already trailed this in TAS, so they know it will work (to some degree). I think it will be more like GST, no one really cared at the time... now people fucking hate it.. still..
